Jamies view on Winter Cross-Country

The winter cross country season is a cool way to not only build up strength for athletics but to also make heaps of friends! Athletes from 7 to 70 take part for serious competition, or just enjoyment. During the season there are five Auckland Grand Prix races held around the city, cross country relay races, the Auckland Road Race and the North Island Champs in Taupo. I have raced at the North Islands twice. It would have to be my favourite race of the season as the course is extremely hilly and can be snowy too! It also gives you a good idea as to who your main National competition is as you are racing against some of the best in New Zealand. All of these events are challenging but a great experience.
Pukekohe has been very successful over the years and has had a few Auckland Champs!
The winter season is also good training for school zone champs and gets you fit for other sports too.
